Can i connect a blackberry pear to a bluetooth gps unit and get gps on my phone?

Question by xxfftlxx@sbcglobal.net: Can i connect a blackberry pear to a bluetooth gps unit and get gps on my phone?
I really want a Blackberry Pearl from Verizon wireless. I was looking online and found a few forums that said you could connect your blackberry to a bluetooth GPS unit and get GPS on your phone. Im wondering if this is possible with the BlackBerry Pearl and if the blackberry will still have to access the internet to use the GPS.

I also read something about tower triangulation to locate your self, does that access the internet as well?

Answer by techhead7
Yes. It is possible. If you look on Telenav’s website, it says something about external GPSs. Try looking on ebay. And by the way, it does use the internet. I have AT&T, so it may be different for you, I recommend the Blackberry 8310 though.

Q&A: I am planning on purchasing a portable GPS system for my husband on his birthday, and have absolutely NO?

Question by Funny and Frisky: I am planning on purchasing a portable GPS system for my husband on his birthday, and have absolutely NO?
knowledge whatsoever about GPS systems, I thought I would ask my buddies at Yahoo Answers their opinions. Please let me know your thoughts from all perspectives: ease of use, portability , and cost, too. I always wonder if salesreps are just trying to sell me the most expensive model or, for that matter, one that they are trying to get rid of!! Thanks, in advance!

Best answer:

Answer by Lee
I always wonder the same thing. The best idea is to go to a store where sales people do not get commission like Best Buy or somewhere like that. More importantly is to have an idea of what you want and market prices are before you go in to the store. Determine your price range and features you want and shop around on the internet. Read reviews and compare prices. You will aslo want to determine what his use will be. I have one primarily for car use and my father has one with a more rugged design for trail use and motorcycle riding. With electronics I always try to stick to a major brand (TomTom or Garmin for GPS). You may be paying more for the brand name but in some cases its worth it. Both companies have great products and I manged to find a Garmin Nuvi750 on sale at Best Buy. Crappy economy=great sales. Just make sure you know what market prices are so you’ll know if the ‘sale’ price is actually a good deal.

BTW: very happy with my Nuvi750
